Las Vegas, NV – A chilling sidewalk shooting in Las Vegas has left two people dead and sparked a police investigation that may be tied to a prior social media dispute, according to authorities.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) confirmed that patrol officers in the area responded swiftly after hearing gunshots ring out. Upon arrival, they discovered two individuals lying on the sidewalk, both suffering from gunshot wounds.
“Our officers rendered medical aid to both victims,” the LVMPD said in a statement, “but their efforts to save those victims’ lives were unsuccessful. Both victims were pronounced deceased at the scene.”
Graphic Livestream Captures the Moment
A graphic video posted to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) showed the moment law enforcement arrived, with one officer seen performing CPR on a victim sprawled across the sidewalk. The video has since gone viral, sparking outrage and shock online.
Adding to the gravity of the incident, NBC News reported that a YouTuber was livestreaming at the time of the shooting and inadvertently captured disturbing footage showing the shooter in action.
In the now-removed video, which NBC News reviewed before it was taken down, a man can be seen entering the frame holding a handgun, then opening fire — at least seven shots were heard. The livestream had shown people casually walking along the street as music played, until the deadly violence unfolded.
Suspect Believed to Be Known to Police
In their statement, the LVMPD said investigators “believe we have the suspect identified,” though they did not confirm whether the individual is currently in custody.
The shooting appears to have stemmed from a prior conflict between the suspect and at least one of the victims, which police say played out across several social media platforms.
At this time, it is unclear whether the suspect named by police is someone known as Ruiz, who was mentioned in earlier briefings, but no formal identification has been released.
Call for Public Assistance
Authorities are now asking for help from the public to advance the investigation. They’ve urged anyone with information or video evidence related to the shooting to reach out to the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 702-385-5555.
This latest episode adds to growing concerns about gun violence erupting in public spaces, especially when linked to online disputes spilling into real-world confrontations.
