Two JetBlue planes hit each other on the ground at Logan Airport in Boston early Thursday morning, causing damage to both aircraft. No passengers or crew members were injured in the incident.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), JetBlue Flight 777, an Airbus A321neo, was entering the deicing pad lane when it struck the right horizontal stabilizer of JetBlue Flight 551, an Airbus A321, which was parked on an adjacent pad. The collision damaged the left winglet of Flight 777 and the tail section of Flight 551.
Both planes were taken out of service for repairs, and the passengers were transferred to other aircraft. Flight 777 was scheduled to depart for Las Vegas, while Flight 551 was headed to Orlando.
The FAA said it will investigate the cause of the collision, which occurred around 6:40 a.m. local time. JetBlue said in a statement that safety is its priority and that it will work to determine how and why the incident occurred.
Some passengers shared photos and videos of the damaged planes on social media, showing a visible dent on the wing of one of the jets. One passenger, Dave Sauter, told Boston 25 News that he was on the flight to Las Vegas and that the crew was very professional and helpful during the situation.
According to Massport, which runs Logan Airport, the incident did not cause any significant delays or disruptions at the airport.
