Two Irish teenagers have been arrested in connection with a violent assault on a 71-year-old grandfather and his 20-year-old grandson during a holiday in the Spanish resort town of Santa Ponsa, Majorca.
The suspects, both aged 18 and also from Ireland, were taken into custody after several witnesses claimed they had seen the pair launching a savage attack on the older victims in the early hours of the morning. The assault is said to have followed an earlier altercation inside a tattoo parlour.
Local authorities say the grandfather sustained multiple facial fractures and required emergency surgery, while his grandson was also injured during the incident. Both victims were transported to the hospital for treatment shortly after the assault.
The two accused teenagers were brought before a judge and remanded in custody at a local detention centre. However, they have since posted €2,000 bail each and been released pending an ongoing judicial investigation.
The incident occurred near Ramon de Montcada Street, a busy stretch in Santa Ponsa close to Magaluf, a resort area frequently visited by Irish tourists.
According to local newspaper Diario de Mallorca, the assault was described as “unprovoked” and especially brutal.
Sources said the two Irish teens were ejected from a tattoo parlour after verbally abusing staff and patrons. It is alleged they turned their aggression on the older Irish men shortly after, shouting: “What are you looking at? Do you want a fight?”

Witnesses claim the suspects then loitered outside the parlour for approximately 40 minutes with six other companions, apparently waiting for the grandfather and grandson to reappear.
The attack is believed to have taken place just outside a fast-food restaurant as the victims were returning to their hotel. After allegedly knocking both men to the ground, the teenagers continued to kick and punch them in what has been described as a sustained and deliberate ambush.
Descriptions from bystanders were handed over to local law enforcement, leading to the swift identification and arrest of the suspects. The two teenagers are still under investigation, though it is believed Spanish authorities have permitted them to return to Ireland while proceedings continue.
The Civil Guard has not yet issued an official statement on the matter.
Separate Fatal Crash Involving Irish Tourist
In a separate incident, a fatal road collision involving another Irish tourist occurred in Santa Ponsa just days later, prompting further concern among holidaymakers.
The fatal crash, which took place on July 31, involved a 38-year-old Irishman driving a rental vehicle that collided head-on with a German cyclist.

The 51-year-old cyclist was thrown from his bike at the intersection of Ramon de Moncada Street and Bartomeu Rosselló Planas Street shortly before 5 pm. Emergency services responded swiftly and attempted to save the victim for nearly 30 minutes.
Despite their efforts, paramedics pronounced the German man dead at the scene.
While no arrests have been made, a local judge has opened a formal investigation into the crash. The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under review, with authorities yet to disclose any further details.
