Hull, UK – Kailum and Kieran Nightingale, 26-year-old identical twins, have been found guilty of manslaughter in the death of 44-year-old Shane Boxall.
The brothers were acquitted of murder charges by a jury at Hull Crown Court after deliberating for just under four hours. They will be sentenced in the New Year and remanded in custody.
The tragic incident occurred on April 25, when the Nightingale twins forced their way into Mr Boxall’s home on Alaska Street, Hull, seeking to recover the money they believed he owed them after a drug deal.
Despite warnings from two women present in the home, one of whom highlighted Mr Boxall’s vulnerability due to previous surgery to remove part of his skull, the brothers proceeded with the confrontation.
According to the prosecution, Kailum Nightingale punched Mr Boxall in the head after a tense exchange, causing him to fall to the ground and begin having a seizure.
Emergency services were called, and Mr Boxall was transported to Hull Royal Infirmary. He was placed on life support but succumbed to his injuries on April 27.
Throughout the trial, the defence contended that the brothers did not intend to kill Mr Boxall but acted in the heat of the moment following an altercation over money. Despite this, the jury found them guilty of manslaughter, acknowledging the severity of the assault, even though there was no clear intent to take Mr Boxall’s life.
The case has sparked discussions about the dangers of violent confrontations stemming from financial disputes, particularly in the context of the drug trade. Sentencing for the twins is set for the New Year, and the local community has been left shocked by the violent outcome.
The twins’ conviction highlights the potential consequences of violent confrontations fuelled by money and drugs, with the court ruling sending a message about the gravity of such offences.
