Centrist House Democrats in competitive districts are at significant risk in the upcoming November elections and are voicing serious concerns about President Biden’s recent debate performance.

Reports indicate that these lawmakers are considering drafting a letter to Biden after facing numerous questions from constituents regarding his fitness during the House’s Fourth of July recess.

The concerns arose from Biden’s performance during his confrontation with the 78-year-old presumptive Republican nominee, where the president frequently hesitated and seemed to lose his train of thought. “It looks like the dam has broken,” remarked a second House Democratic aide, reflecting the growing anxiety within the party.

This follows Rep. Lloyd Doggett (D-Texas) becoming the first House Democrat to suggest that Biden step aside due to his public performance. Rep. Jared Golden (D-Maine) also expressed a lack of confidence in Biden’s ability to beat Trump in the November election. Similarly, Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-Wash.) told local outlet KATU, “The truth, I think, is that Biden is going to lose to Trump.”

The White House has indicated that meetings between Biden and congressional leaders are being planned to address these concerns. However, multiple House Democratic leaders have not responded to The Post’s requests for comment. This situation highlights the increasing worry among Democrats as they head into a challenging election season.
