Michael Cohen, the former personal attorney and fixer of ex-President Donald Trump, has slammed his daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, as “an idiot” and claimed that Trump never liked her.
Cohen made the remarks on Tuesday in an interview with Ben Meiselas, co-founder of the progressive media outlet MeidasTouch. He was reacting to Trump’s endorsement of Lara Trump, who is married to his son Eric, for the position of co-chair of the Republican National Committee (RNC).
Cohen said that Trump had always disliked Lara Trump and tried to prevent Eric from marrying her. He also said that Trump and his other children, Donald Jr. and Ivanka, used to mock Lara Trump’s appearance.

“First and foremost, Donald didn’t even like her for many years,” Cohen said. “He didn’t want Eric even to marry her. He had found somebody else working at the Trump Organization that he wanted Eric to marry.”

“And of course, not only did Donald make fun of her looks, but so of course did [Donald Trump Jr.] and Ivanka [Trump]; they all made fun of her looks. They didn’t like her at all,” he added.
Cohen also described Lara Trump as “an idiot” and said that he was not saying that to be mean but because it was true. He questioned her qualifications for the RNC role and said that she was only used by Trump to maintain his grip on the party.
“She’s an idiot. And I’m not saying that to be mean. I’m saying that because it’s true,” Cohen said. “She has no skill set, she has no talent, she has no ability. She’s just a mouthpiece for Donald. And the only reason that he’s putting her there is that he wants to control the RNC.”
Cohen, who worked for Trump for more than a decade, turned against him in 2018 and pleaded guilty to several crimes, including campaign finance violations related to hush-money payments to women who alleged affairs with Trump. He served a three-year prison sentence and has since become a vocal critic of Trump, testifying against him in various investigations and writing a tell-all book.
Trump has repeatedly denounced Cohen as a “proven liar” and a “rat” who betrayed him. He has also accused him of making up stories to reduce jail time and sell his book.
Lara Trump, a former television producer, married Eric Trump in 2014. She has been a prominent surrogate for Trump and has expressed interest in running for the Senate in North Carolina, her home state. She has not officially announced her candidacy, but Trump endorsed her for the RNC co-chair position on Monday, saying she would be “fantastic” and “a big deal.”
The current RNC chair, Ronna McDaniel, is expected to resign from her post later this month. She has been loyal to Trump and has supported his baseless claims of election fraud. Trump has also endorsed her for another term as chair, saying she has done a “great job.”
