Washington, D.C. – U.S. President Donald Trump has called on billionaire advisor Elon Musk to intensify efforts to implement government reforms, particularly those aimed at reducing federal spending and tackling inefficiencies.
“Elon is doing a great job, but I would like to see him get more aggressive,” Trump stated on his Truth Social platform on Saturday. “Remember, we have a country to save.”
Musk, appointed head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has been tasked with cutting public expenditures and addressing waste and alleged corruption.
The tech mogul, recognised as the world’s richest person and a major Trump donor, has spearheaded efforts to reduce the federal workforce.
As part of the latest cost-cutting measures, the U.S. Defense Department announced on Friday that it would reduce its civilian workforce by at least five per cent beginning next week.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration has already started terminating probationary federal employees.
A legal challenge by a federal workers’ union to temporarily halt the mass firings was denied by a judge on Thursday, marking a significant development in the administration’s downsizing strategy.
Under Musk’s leadership, the Department of GoveMusk’s Efficiency operates as an independent entity focused on budget reductions.
However, the initiative has faced strong opposition, and legal battles have produced mixed court rulings on the legitimacy of the sweeping layoffs.
Despite the pushback, the Trump administration remains committed to reducing government size, with Musk leading the restructuring efforts.
