Maxwell’s Final Appeal Rejected by Supreme Court
U.S. President Donald Trump has said he will “take a look” at the case of Ghislaine Maxwell after the U.S. Supreme Court rejected her appeal against conviction for sex trafficking underage girls with Jeffrey Epstein.
Maxwell, the British socialite and Epstein’s long-time associate, is serving a 20-year sentence for helping recruit and groom teenage girls for sexual abuse. Her lawyers had argued that she was unfairly prosecuted as a stand-in for Epstein, who died in jail in 2019.
The Supreme Court dismissed her final appeal this week, rejecting claims of judicial errors and witness inconsistencies. The ruling effectively ends her legal battle to overturn the conviction.
Transfer to Texas Prison After Meeting DOJ Official
Maxwell was transferred earlier this year from a low-security facility in Florida to a minimum-security prison camp in Texas after meeting with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche in July.
Asked at the White House whether he would consider a pardon for Maxwell, Trump appeared noncommittal.
“I haven’t heard the name in so long,” he said. “I’d have to take a look at it. I will speak to the Department of Justice. I wouldn’t consider it or not consider it; I don’t know anything about it.”
The former president added that he receives constant requests for clemency. “I have a lot of people who have asked me for pardons… I didn’t know she was even asking for it, frankly.”
Trump References Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs in Same Briefing
Trump then referred to rapper and entrepreneur Sean “Diddy” Combs, who was recently sentenced to four years in prison for two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
“I call him Puff Daddy. He’s asked me for a pardon,” Trump said. Reports in July had already suggested he was considering Combs for clemency.
In a later interview with Newsmax, Trump was asked again about pardoning Combs. “Well, he was essentially, I guess, sort of half innocent,” Trump said. “Probably. I was very friendly with him, but when I ran for office, he was very hostile, and it’s hard. So, I don’t know — it’s more difficult.”
History of Presidential Pardons Under Trump
During his presidency, Trump issued several high-profile pardons, including individuals involved in the January 6, 2021, Capitol riots. Fourteen people linked to the attack, including members of the far-right Proud Boys, had their sentences commuted.
The latest comments have reignited speculation about whether Trump intends to use his influence to intervene in Maxwell’s case — or in other celebrity prosecutions.
Renewed Pressure Over Epstein Files
Trump has also faced renewed pressure to release all government-held documents linked to Jeffrey Epstein. His administration was reportedly informed earlier this year that his name appeared several times in the Department of Justice’s Epstein files.
According to The Wall Street Journal, former Attorney General Pam Bondi briefed Trump in May that the documents contained “unverified hearsay” about several individuals — including Trump — who had previously socialised with Epstein.
The publication reported that senior administration officials confirmed Trump was made aware of those mentions during a White House meeting.
Sources claimed the Justice Department’s Epstein files include names of multiple prominent business and political figures, but the allegations remain unsubstantiated.
White House Denies Allegations of Political Bias
White House spokesman Steven Cheung dismissed the claims, calling them “nothing more than a continuation of fake news stories concocted by Democrats and the liberal media.”
The Justice Department has not commented on whether further Epstein-related documents will be released.
Trump has yet to confirm whether he intends to take formal action regarding Maxwell’s conviction or any pending clemency requests.
