Former White House doctor Rep. Ronny Jackson, R-Texas, released a statement on Friday affirming that former President Donald Trump is “rapidly recovering” from the shooting at a July 13 campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Jackson also disputed claims made by FBI Director Christopher Wray regarding the nature of Trump’s injury.
In his letter, Jackson emphasized that Trump was struck solely by a bullet during the attack and rejected any suggestions that the injury could have been caused by shrapnel or glass.
Jackson, who has served as a physician to both President Obama and Trump, stated, “There is no evidence that it was anything other than a bullet.”
The controversy arose after Wray’s testimony earlier this week, where he hinted that Trump’s injury might have involved additional materials besides the bullet. Jackson criticized Wray’s statements as “inappropriate” and demanded that Congress correct the record.
Jackson, who has been monitoring Trump’s health since the assassination attempt, asserted, “The would-be assassin fired multiple rounds from a high-powered rifle, with one bullet striking the former President in his right ear.” He added that the FBI Director’s suggestion undermined the investigation’s credibility.
In a Thursday interview on FOX Business’ Kudlow,’ Jackson dismissed Wray’s comments as “absolutely ridiculous” and indicative of a broader issue with the FBI’s handling of the situation. Jackson called for a bipartisan House task force to investigate the shooting and expressed distrust in current law enforcement statements.
Jackson praised the formation of the task force, stating, “We don’t have any confidence in the number one law enforcement agency in this country right now. If Wray is going to make statements like that, he better have some evidence.”
Trump’s recovery is reportedly progressing well, according to Jackson, who also promised continued updates on Trump’s condition as permitted by the former President.
