Former President Donald Trump rallied a rowdy crowd in Crotona Park on Thursday, marking his first major campaign event in New York since 2016.
Despite the permitted capacity of 3,500, thousands gathered outside the park anticipating Trump’s remarks.
Campaign adviser Chris LaCivita claimed 20,000 RSVPs, though NYPD did not provide an immediate crowd estimate.
Trump criticized President Joe Biden’s handling of New York’s infrastructure, citing subways, highways, and public safety issues.
He denounced Biden as the “worst president in the history of our country,” promising to reverse the nation’s decline.
Protest groups, including Rise and Resist, displayed banners opposing Trump’s presence, but there were no reports of arrests or injuries.
Amid the rally, tensions flared between Trump supporters and protesters, resulting in minor scuffles and heated exchanges.
Trump’s presence in New York comes as he stands trial on charges related to “hush money” payments to Stormy Daniels.
His campaign aims to appeal to traditional Democratic voters in areas like the Bronx, where Trump garnered 16% support in 2016.
Voter registration tables were set up near the rally stage, with over 50 people registering to vote before Trump’s speech.
Before the rally, Trump spent the day golfing at his Bedminster club in New Jersey, returning to Trump Tower before heading to Crotona Park.

Thursday’s event follows a massive rally in Wildwood, New Jersey, on May 11, which drew 100,000 supporters.
