Trump Dominates Biden in Key Swing-State Obama Previously Carried Twice
Former President Trump leads President Biden by 18 points in Iowa, according to a new poll in a state that has shifted right over the past decade…
The poll, released by the Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll, shows Trump at 50% and Biden at 32% among likely voters. Other candidates also received support, with Democrat turned independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. at 9%, Libertarian Party candidate Chase Oliver at 3%, and 3% backing other candidates.
Iowa, which was once a swing state, has shifted to the right over the past decade. Former President Obama carried the state in the 2008 and 2012 elections, but Trump won it by 9 points in 2016 and by 8 points over Biden in his re-election defeat.
Trump’s lead over Biden has increased from a 15-point margin in the previous poll conducted by the Des Moines Register/Mediacom Iowa Poll in February. The recent poll was conducted from June 9-14, after Trump’s conviction on all 34 felony counts in the first trial of a former or current president in the nation’s history.
The poll also revealed that Biden’s approval rating stood at 28%, with two-thirds of respondents disapproving of his performance in the White House.
Biden’s favorable rating was at 33%, while Trump had a 51%-47% favorable/unfavorable rating in the survey.
The poll surveyed 632 likely voters in Iowa, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points. Trump’s last visit to Iowa was in April 2022, and he made several stops in the state last year and early this year leading up to the Iowa caucuses.
