Former President Donald Trump launched a scathing critique of Vice President Kamala Harris during a press conference on Thursday, alleging that she was selected for her role due to “politically correct” reasons and is incapable of handling interviews.

Trump, 78, described Harris, 59, as “the most unpopular vice president” and suggested she was appointed as the Democratic presidential nominee for reasons of political correctness rather than merit. He pointed out that Harris had not received a vote to secure her position.

Recalling their 2020 primary debates, Trump accused Harris of being “nasty” towards President Joe Biden, 81, and claimed that she had labelled him a racist. Trump further asserted that Biden endorsed Harris on July 21 after stepping aside from the race and is currently “a furious man.” He alleged that Biden’s presidency was undermined and expressed doubt about Biden’s ability to win reelection, stating, “They took the presidency away,” and mentioning discussions about using the 25th Amendment to remove Biden from office.

Trump criticized Harris for her lack of media engagements, claiming she has not conducted any interviews since becoming the Democratic nominee. “She can’t do an interview,” Trump said. He anticipated upcoming debates, proposing three potential dates with Harris: September 4 on Fox News, September 10 on NBC, and September 25 on ABC.

Trump also dismissed recent reports of large crowds at Harris’ rallies, contrasting them with his high-turnout events. He noted, “Nobody says about crowd size with me,” and suggested that Harris’ crowds did not indicate genuine enthusiasm. Harris recently addressed large audiences at Temple University in Philadelphia, Eau Claire, Wis., and Detroit.

Addressing Biden’s comments about a potential lack of peaceful power transfer following the November 5 election, Trump reassured that there would be a peaceful transition, contrasting his stance with the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot that aimed to disrupt the certification of Biden’s Electoral College victory.

Trump concluded his remarks by criticizing Harris’ media presence, stating, “She’s not doing a news conference. She doesn’t know how to do a news conference. She’s not smart enough to do a news conference.” He emphasized the need for capable leadership in addressing the nation’s challenges.
