WASHINGTON D.C. — President Donald Trump announced Saturday that the United States has carried out targeted military strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites, including the heavily fortified Fordow enrichment facility, in what he described as a “very successful attack.”
The move marks the most direct U.S. military involvement since hostilities erupted between Israel and Iran, escalating what had previously been a proxy-driven conflict into an overt confrontation between major powers.
“All planes are safely on their way home,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Fordow is gone. Now is the time for peace.”
Trump’s message signaled that no American casualties were reported and praised U.S. forces for their execution of the mission.
Fordow Facility Targeted
The Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant, located near the city of Qom and built deep inside a mountain, has long been considered one of Iran’s most secretive and secure nuclear installations. The facility is known to house advanced centrifuges used to enrich uranium, and its location has made it difficult to target with conventional airstrikes.

Trump’s claim that the site has been destroyed could not be independently verified at the time of reporting. Iranian state media acknowledged reports of “aerial disturbances” in Qom province but did not confirm any strike.
If verified, the strike would constitute a significant blow to Iran’s nuclear capabilities and a bold assertion of U.S. military reach.
Escalation of Conflict
The attack follows weeks of mounting regional tensions as Israeli air and drone strikes have killed multiple senior members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), as well as top Hezbollah commanders in Lebanon.
While Trump has repeatedly said he prefers a diplomatic resolution, Saturday’s strike suggests a new threshold has been crossed in U.S. policy — one in which Washington is willing to act unilaterally to disrupt Iran’s nuclear infrastructure.
It is still unclear whether any U.S. allies were involved in the operation. Officials in London, Paris, and Brussels have so far declined to comment. The Pentagon has not released a formal statement at time of publication.
Iran Yet to Respond
As of Saturday afternoon, Iranian leadership had not issued a public response. However, sources in Tehran indicated that senior military and clerical officials were holding emergency meetings.
Multiple analysts warned that a military counter-response by Iran — either directly or through allied militias in Iraq, Syria, or Lebanon — could follow in the coming hours or days.
What This Means
While Trump ended his statement by calling for peace, the decision to strike Fordow — a symbolic and strategic target — suggests Washington is prepared for a high-stakes phase in the conflict.
