Donald Trump demanded on Friday that Joe Biden undergo drug testing ahead of the two presidential debates agreed upon by both candidates.
The former president referenced Biden’s State of the Union address in March, alleging that Biden appeared “high as a kite” during the speech.
During a speech at a GOP dinner in St. Paul, Minn., Trump expressed his intention to demand a drug test for Biden before the debates.
He emphasised his desire for a fair debate, stating, “I just want to debate this guy, but you know – and I’m gonna demand a drug test too, by the way.”
Trump reiterated his stance on drug testing for Biden without mentioning whether he would undergo one himself.
The Biden campaign did not immediately respond to the request for comment on Trump’s remarks.
Biden, 81, delivered his address with vigour, speaking loudly and reasonably rapidly.
Rep. Greg Murphy (R-N.C.) suggested that Biden “must have been jacked up on something that day.”
Trump, 77, has previously called for drug testing of Biden during the 2020 election campaign. Despite Trump’s insistence, neither candidate underwent drug testing before their debates in 2020.
The two candidates have agreed to participate in debates scheduled for June 27 (on CNN) and September 10 (on ABC).
Trump expressed confidence in the fairness of the networks hosting the debates, stating, “They’re going to be fair; I think they’re going to be fair enough.”
