Former President Donald Trump unleashed a scathing critique of President Joe Biden shortly after Biden announced his exit from the 2024 presidential race.

On Truth Social, Trump did not hold back, declaring, “Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve – And never was!” He continued, accusing Biden of achieving the presidency through deception and media manipulation, and criticized the administration’s handling of border security, alleging it has led to unchecked entries by dangerous individuals.

Trump also labelled Biden as the “single worst president by far” during a phone call with CNN, expressing his belief that Biden’s presidency has been the most disastrous in American history.

Trump, 78, had previously expressed scepticism about Biden’s chances of completing his re-election campaign. In a May interview with “Cats & Cosby Show” hosts John Catsimatidis and Rita Cosby, Trump questioned Biden’s mental sharpness and expressed doubts about whether Biden would even run.

Following Biden’s problematic debate performance on June 27, where Biden struggled with coherent responses and experienced moments of confusion, Trump adjusted his stance. He acknowledged that Biden would likely remain the Democratic nominee but continued to cast doubt on Biden’s ability to successfully navigate the race.

Trump, who had previously indicated uncertainty about Biden’s ability to complete his campaign, mentioned potential Democratic replacements such as California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Vice President Kamala Harris, and former First Lady Michelle Obama. He criticized Newsom’s governance of California and expressed scepticism about Harris and Obama’s chances if they were to replace Biden.

Recent polls and betting odds reflected a boost for Trump, with RealClearPolitics showing Trump leading Biden by a significant margin. The former president’s campaign gained further momentum following an attempted assassination at a rally in Butler, Pa., on July 13, which Trump survived with minor injuries.

His lead in key swing states solidified, and his campaign has gained traction as he secured the Republican nomination and selected Ohio Senator JD Vance as his running mate.

Trump’s acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee drew record viewership, solidifying his position as the Republican Party’s frontrunner for the 2024 election.
