Trump Blames Harris for 15K Illegal Immigrants in US Linked to Homicide: ‘Incompetence at the Border’
Former President Donald Trump blamed Vice President Kamala Harris for the alarming number of illegal immigrants living in the U.S. who have been charged with or convicted of homicide during a town hall event in Warren, Michigan, on Friday.
Citing federal data, Trump, 78, called the figure of more than 15,000 migrants involved in homicide cases “the worst numbers I think I’ve ever heard.” He then turned his criticism to Harris, accusing her of incompetence in her role as the Biden administration’s border czar.
“Comrade Kamala Harris all did it,” Trump said. “Our great border czar, who’s incompetent, who’s totally incompetent.”
The data provided by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-Texas) reveals that as of July 21, 662,566 noncitizens with criminal records were listed in ICE’s national docket. This includes 13,099 individuals convicted of homicide and 1,845 with pending homicide charges. ICE is currently detaining 277 migrants convicted of homicide and 51 others facing such charges, indicating they are likely facing deportation.
Trump’s comments on immigration came as part of a broader speech focused on the U.S. auto industry and his economic plans, including a proposal to impose tariffs on Chinese-made automobiles produced in Mexico and destined for the U.S. He argued that these tariffs would help revitalize American auto manufacturing.
“[Chinese automakers] think they’re going to make the cars and sell them here and close up Detroit, close up everything in this area,” Trump said. “And it’s not going to happen because we’re going to put very heavy tariffs on those cars coming across the border.”
Trump then returned to immigration and his criticism of Harris, calling her someone “who always complains and doesn’t do anything.” He referenced Harris’ recent trip to the U.S.-Mexico border, saying sarcastically, “What a day for the border.”
The remarks highlight Trump’s ongoing focus on immigration and his attacks on the Biden administration’s handling of the border crisis as a central issue in his potential 2024 presidential campaign.
