Former President Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on Sunday, holding them accountable for the deaths of six hostages, including US-Israeli citizen Hersh Goldberg-Polin, who Hamas killed in Gaza.

Trump, a leading candidate in the upcoming presidential election, expressed his outrage on Truth Social, accusing the current administration of “poor leadership” and claiming that he could have secured the hostages’ safety if he were still in office.

“This happened because Comrade Kamala Harris and Crooked Joe Biden are poor leaders. They have blood on their hands!” Trump wrote.

He argued that the security of the United States and its citizens has diminished under Biden’s presidency and warned that the situation would worsen if Harris were to assume leadership. “This terror would have never happened if I were President, and it will stop the day I am back in the Oval Office. America will be strong again, and that will make the world safe and secure,” he asserted.

Trump’s criticism followed after Biden and Harris reached out to Goldberg-Polin’s parents to offer their condolences.

Harris shared on Twitter that she and her husband, Doug Emhoff, who is Jewish, had spoken with the grieving parents to express their sorrow. “Doug and I just spoke to Jon and Rachel, Hersh Goldberg-Polin’s parents, to express our condolences following the brutal murder of their son by Hamas terrorists,” Harris tweeted.

“My heart breaks for their pain and anguish. I told them that as they mourn this terrible loss, they are not alone. Our nation mourns with them.”

The hostages’ bodies were discovered in Rafah. In this southern Gaza location, the Biden administration had previously urged Israel to avoid direct military action, cautioning it would cross a “red line.” The Israeli health ministry confirmed that the hostages had been killed by short-range gunfire two to three days before their bodies were recovered.

In response, President Biden condemned Hamas, expressing his anger and grief over the killings. “I am devastated and outraged,” Biden said in a statement. “Make no mistake, Hamas leaders will pay for these crimes.”

In addition to Goldberg-Polin, the other victims identified were Ori Danino, 25; Eden Yerushalmi, 24; Almog Sarusi, 27; Alexander Lobanov, 33; and Carmel Gat, 40. The deaths have intensified the already heated political climate, with Trump using the tragedy to question the current administration’s handling of national security and foreign policy.
