President-elect Donald Trump announced Friday that Karoline Leavitt, his campaign spokeswoman, will serve as White House press secretary in his upcoming administration. At 27, Leavitt will become the youngest person to hold the role.

During Trump’s first term in the White House, Leavitt previously worked as the Trump campaign’s national press secretary and assistant press secretary.

“Karoline Leavitt did a phenomenal job as the National Press Secretary on my Historical Campaign, and I am pleased to announce she will serve as White House Press Secretary,” Trump said in his official announcement.

“Karoline is smart, tough, and has proven to be a highly effective communicator. I am confident she will excel at the podium and help deliver our message to the American People as we Make America Great Again.”

Leavitt’s political career has been notable. During the 2022 midterm elections, she ran for Congress in New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional District. After winning the Republican primary, she lost in the general election to Democratic incumbent Rep. Chris Pappas.

Leavitt also served as a spokeswoman for Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), who Trump has tapped to be his ambassador to the United Nations.

Leavitt’s appointment marks her as the fifth White House press secretary under Trump. During Trump’s first term, the position was held by Sean Spicer, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, Stephanie Grisham, and Kayleigh McEnany. Before Leavitt’s selection, Ron Ziegler, who served under President Richard Nixon at age 29, was the youngest to hold the title.

In addition to Leavitt’s appointment, Trump announced other vital roles in his incoming administration. Steven Cheung, a longtime communications advisor, will return as White House director of communications, while Sergio Gor, CEO of Don Jr.’s Winning Team Publishing, will lead the Presidential Personnel Office.

“Steven Cheung and Sergio Gor have been trusted Advisors since my first Presidential Campaign in 2016 and have continued to champion America First principles throughout my First Term, through our Historic Victory in 2024,” Trump said.

These appointments highlight the early organisation of Trump’s White House team as he prepares to begin his second term in office.
