Trump Agrees to September 4 Debate with Kamala Harris
Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has announced that he has reached an agreement with Fox News to debate Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris on September 4.
Trump made the announcement on his Truth Social platform, but it is still uncertain whether Harris has agreed to participate.
The announcement comes shortly after Harris secured the Democratic party’s presidential nomination, following President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the race on July 21 due to concerns about his age and declining poll numbers. Biden endorsed Harris after a poor debate performance against Trump in June.
A second Trump-Biden debate had been scheduled for September 10 on ABC, and while it is expected to proceed with Harris replacing Biden, Trump’s spokesman, Steven Cheung, previously stated it was “inappropriate” to schedule it before Harris was formally nominated.
In his post, Trump shared that the debate will be held in Pennsylvania and moderated by Fox News’ Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum before a full audience. Trump had initially declined to debate Harris but reconsidered following her challenge at a campaign rally in Atlanta.
Fox News confirmed the debate would feature spectators and adhere to rules similar to the June debate between Trump and Biden. The network invited both candidates to participate in the Pennsylvania debate, which Trump emphasized was scheduled just before early voting on September 6.
