Vice President Kamala Harris has adopted a policy initially proposed by former President Donald Trump, promising to eliminate federal taxes on tips for workers in the service industry.
Speaking at a rally at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas on Saturday, Harris vowed to champion “working families of Americans” by removing taxes on tips paid to employees in restaurants, bars, hotels, and other service sectors.
Harris, endorsed by the Culinary Workers Union Local 226, addressed the crowd of service and hospitality workers, promising to “eliminate taxes on tips” as part of her broader agenda to support working families. “When I was attorney general of California, we worked together to crack down on wage theft,” Harris said. “When I was United States senator, we fought together for paid family and medical leave.”

She also referenced the recent contract victory celebrated by the union in Las Vegas, affirming her intention to continue advocating for workers if elected president.
“It is my promise to everyone here when I am president, we will continue our fight for America’s working families,” Harris declared. “Including to raise the minimum wage and eliminate taxes on tips for service and hospitality workers.”

The announcement did not go unnoticed by Trump, who quickly took to social media to accuse Harris of “stealing” his policy. “Kamala Harr s, whose ‘Honeymoon’ period is ENDING, and is starting to get hammered in the Polls, just copied my NO TAXES ON TIPS Policy,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post. He further stated, “The difference is, she won’t do it, she just wants it for Political Purposes! This was a T UMP idea – She has no ideas; she can only steal from me.”
Trump also pointed to Harris’s past proposals, accusing her of supporting a massive tax increase. “Remember, Kamala has proposed the LARGEST TAX INCREASE IN HISTORY – It won’t happen. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!” he added.
Harris’s adoption of the policy follows Trump’s promise in June during a visit to Las Vegas, where he assured service industry workers that he would eliminate taxes on their tips if re-elected.

“Fo thos hotel workers and people that get tips, you’re going to be very happy because when I get to the office, we are going to not charge taxes on tips,” Trump said.
“It’s been a point of contention for years and years and years, and you do a great job of service. You take care of people, and I think it will be something that deserves.”
The Harris campaign has not responded to Trump’s accusations or provided further comments on the issue.
