A transgender woman allegedly shot her parents inside their Utah home on Tuesday night, according to authorities and media reports.
Mia Bailey, described by police as someone who frequently changes her appearance and wears wigs, was apprehended on Wednesday after an extensive manhunt lasting several hours.
The victims, a man and a woman suffering from gunshot wounds, were found inside their home.
Following the discovery, law enforcement launched a search for Bailey, who was considered “armed and dangerous” and fled the scene in a yellow Kia Soul.
The pursuit culminated hours later in Bailey’s apprehension in a St. George neighborhood, approximately 7 miles from the crime scene.
Officer Tiffany Mitchell of the St. George Police Department conveyed relief on social media, announcing Bailey’s capture and ensuring the safety of the community without further incidents.
Video footage captured the moment Bailey peacefully surrendered to a group of armed officers, reportedly laying down a firearm before being taken into custody.
While authorities have not disclosed the exact relationship between Bailey and the victims, records indicate that Bailey resided in the same home as Joseph and Gail Bailey, aged 70 and 69 respectively.
Gail’s brother confirmed the devastating loss on social media, expressing shock and grief over the deaths of his sister and her husband at the hands of their own child.
The tragic event has left the community reeling with unanswered questions regarding the motive behind the killings.
Investigations into the incident continue as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the fatal shooting.
