Tragic Dog Bite: 10-Year-Old Girl Dies in North Yorkshire; Family Pet to Be Euthanized

A tragic incident in North Yorkshire has left a family devastated after a 10-year-old girl died following a dog bite from the family pet.

North Yorkshire Police reported that the attack occurred around 4:15 PM on Friday, November 1, inside the family’s home in the Malton area.

Authorities have confirmed that the dog involved in the incident will be euthanised as part of their investigation. Police are examining the dog’s behaviour to determine the reasons for the unexpected attack.

According to law enforcement, the attack was described as “out-of-character,” and the girl reportedly had a close and loving relationship with the dog.

Emergency services, including North Yorkshire Police and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, arrived on the scene. Still, sadly, the young girl succumbed to her injuries despite the efforts of medical professionals and a member of the public who tried to assist the family. Before the arrival of emergency personnel, a family member had secured the dog inside a vehicle, allowing police to seize the animal for examination.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police stated, “We are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of a 10-year-old girl in the Malton area. She suffered serious injuries after being bitten by the family’s dog while at home.”

The spokesperson emphasised the ongoing nature of the investigation, saying, “All indications so far suggest it was out-of-character, with the girl and dog having a close, loving relationship.”

A post-mortem examination of the girl is scheduled to take place, but her identity has not yet been released to the public. Authorities are urging the community to refrain from speculation and to respect the family’s desire for privacy during this difficult time.

“Our officers are continuing to support the family while inquiries continue,” the spokesperson added.
