Tourist Vanishes After 30-Foot Sinkhole Plunge in Kuala Lumpur

A 48-year-old Indian woman is missing after falling nearly 30 feet into a sinkhole that suddenly opened up beneath her in Kuala Lumpur’s Dang Wangi area on Friday.

The tourist was walking along the pavement when the ground gave way, swallowing her whole.

Despite extensive search efforts, including the use of an excavator to clear debris, there has been no sign of the woman since the incident.

Authorities now believe she may have been swept away by a strong underground water current.

Local police chief Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman did not comment on the possible condition of the missing woman or the exact cause of the sinkhole.

Kuala Lumpur police head Rusdi Mohamad Isa noted that the search is challenging due to the strong water flow beneath the surface. He emphasized the need for careful planning to avoid disrupting public infrastructure, which could lead to flooding if pipes or drains are shut off.

The area where the sinkhole appeared had experienced a soil slip last year, which was reportedly repaired.

However, businesses in the vicinity have been advised to close temporarily as a precaution.

The missing woman had been in Malaysia for about two months on vacation with her husband and friends and was scheduled to return home on Saturday. Authorities continue their search, hoping to locate her amid growing concerns for her safety.
