Tottenham’s Top-Four Aspirations Take a Blow in 4-2 Defeat to Brighton in the Premier League
Tottenham Hotspur suffered a damaging 4-2 defeat at the hands of Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League on Thursday, denting their hopes of finishing in the top four.
With the late goals from Alejo Véliz and Ben Davies, Tottenham was outplayed by a Brighton side missing up to 10 players due to injury.
Brighton took the lead in the 11th minute through Jack Hinshelwood before Joao Pedro converted a penalty in the 23rd minute after Danny Welbeck was fouled in the area.
James Milner hit the post for Brighton in a first half that saw Tottenham’s defence struggle, with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven absent due to injury.
Despite Richarlison hitting the post and having a goal ruled out for offside, Brighton scored two more goals through Pervis Estupinan and Joao Pedro’s second penalty. Tottenham rallied late with two goals, but Brighton held on for the win.
