Tottenham Hotspur have finally ended their 15-year wait for silverware after a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in an all-English Europa League final in Bilbao.
Brennan Johnson scored the decisive goal late in the first half, sealing a historic win for Ange Postecoglou’s side. The victory marks the Spurs’ first major trophy since their League Cup triumph in 2009 and their first European success since 1984.
The win also secures Tottenham a place in next season’s Champions League, while Manchester United face a campaign without European football for the first time in a decade.
In a tense encounter with few clear chances, Johnson’s movement confused the United defence just before the break. Surrounded by Harry Maguire, Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu, the winger found space to turn home at the near post.
United pushed for an equaliser in the second half, with Micky van de Ven producing a stunning goal-line clearance to deny Rasmus Hojlund. Alejandro Garnacho came off the bench and tested goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, but United’s attacking struggles once again proved costly.
For both teams, who endured disappointing Premier League campaigns, the Europa League represented a final shot at redemption—one Spurs grasped with both hands.
