Toronto Police Chase Suspect After Stolen Truck Crashes Into Downtown Store – Video

Two People are in custody following a dramatic incident in downtown Toronto involving a stolen pickup truck. The truck allegedly struck a police horse and collided with three police cruisers before crashing into a local store.

The incident unfolded around 3:15 p.m. when Toronto police received an alert from their Automated Licence Plate Recognition system regarding a stolen Dodge Ram. Inspecting the area, officers from the Mounted Unit attempted to stop the vehicle as it drove toward them, resulting in one of the horses being struck.

As the suspect attempted to escape, the truck rammed into three police cruisers, according to Insp. Scott Shutt, the stolen vehicle hit a scout car head-on and then reversed onto the curb, causing further collisions with the police vehicles.

Video footage captured by CP24 shows the police boxing in the truck after it crashed into the store.

During the chaos, one suspect exited the vehicle and fled on foot, prompting a chase that included mounted officers. After a brief pursuit, police apprehended the suspect, who was subsequently taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The passenger in the truck was also taken into custody.

One police officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalised, while the police horse, named York, was transported to a veterinary hospital for evaluation. Details regarding any charges related to the incident are still pending as investigations continue.

Toronto Police Chief Myron Demkiw expressed gratitude on social media, noting that he was relieved the injured officer would recover and that no members of the public were harmed. He commended the officers for their dedication and the dangers they face daily.
