The UK is considering extraditing an American citizen, Isaac Calderon, after he was involved in a crash, leaving a British nurse, Elizabeth Donowho, unable to walk.

Mr. Calderon, believed to be a US soldier, failed to appear at Kidderminster magistrates’ court on December 1 after leaving Ms Donowho injured in the late July wreck. Ms Donowho broke both her ankles and a bone in her hand and fractured her sternum during the crash, leaving her unable to walk for six weeks.

West Mercia Police stated that Mr Calderon was believed to be back in the United States. They have been working to reach him through formal channels and will continue. The police are preparing appropriate paperwork to request extradition to ensure the case can be heard in court.

Ms. Donowho stated that Mr. Calderon was visiting somebody at the SAS in Hereford. It was later confirmed that he had been working for the US intelligence services. In a statement, West Mercia Police said they knew of Anne Sacoolas’s case and that Mr Calderon was a flight risk.

In August 2019, American Anne Sacoolas struck 19-year-old Harry Dunne’s motorcycle before leaving him to die. Sacoolas was able to leave the UK 19 days after the incident and had diplomatic immunity asserted on her behalf by her government. She was initially claimed to be in the country as a diplomat’s wife, but it later emerged that she worked for an intelligence agency, too.

Ms Donowho added that she leads a tranquil life, goes to work, comes home, swims, and looks after her cats. She expressed her frustration with the situation, stating that she is now in an awful mess.
