Time Magazine Owner Criticizes Vice President Kamala Harris for Declining Interviews Amid Presidential Campaign
Marc Benioff, the owner of Time magazine, has publicly called out Vice President Kamala Harris for repeatedly declining interview requests as the 2024 presidential campaign enters its final stages.
Benioff, who has owned the prominent publication since 2018, expressed his frustration on social media, highlighting that former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden had both participated in interviews with Time during their respective campaigns.
“Despite multiple requests, Time has not been granted an interview with Kamala Harris — unlike every other Presidential candidate,” Benioff tweeted on Sunday. Known primarily as the founder of Salesforce.com, Benioff emphasized the magazine’s commitment to transparency, adding, “We believe in transparency and publish each interview in full. Why isn’t the Vice President engaging with the public on the same level? #TrustMatters #TransparencyMatters #Leadership.”
A profile of Harris published by Time on Friday noted that Trump had participated in two interviews with the magazine, speaking for a total of 90 minutes. Biden, too, engaged in a similarly timed interview during his campaign. In contrast, Harris has shown little interest in sitting down with the publication, according to Time journalist Charlotte Alter, who authored the piece.
Alter pointed out that Harris has favored local media, cultural podcasts, and talk shows over in-depth interviews with major news outlets. Over the past week, Harris appeared on popular programs such as The View, the podcast Call Her Daddy, The Howard Stern Show, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
The only major news program she participated in was 60 Minutes, where she gave an interview last Monday.
In August, Time faced criticism for publishing a favorable profile of Harris, even though she had declined to be interviewed at the time.
As Election Day draws closer, recent polling indicates Harris may be losing ground to Trump, with only a few weeks left before voters head to the polls.
