Man Allegedly Commits Suicide After Losing N2.5M to Betting

Nigerian Facebook user Onoh Chukwuma allegedly killed himself after losing N2.5 million to gambling.

He posted a message on his Facebook wall, stating that it was his last day on earth and that he would meet his maker.

Unbeknownst to those reading the post, he had already consumed an insecticide before making the announcement. In his post, he thanked some individuals and his friends, saying his spirit was with them all.

Upon learning of his distress, friends rushed Onoh to Madonna Hospital, Umuahia, but despite the efforts of doctors to resuscitate him, he did not survive.

It was reported that Onoh had allegedly lost N2.5m to betting and could not bear the shame and pressure from those from whom he borrowed money.

A friend expressed heartbreak, recounting the futile attempts by medical professionals to revive him. Another Facebook user questioned the deceased’s decision, mentioning that Onoh had N1m and borrowed N1.5m to play a bet that failed, leading to his tragic end due to shame from debtors.

Friends have since taken to his Facebook page to send condolences. The incident has sparked conversations about the dangers of gambling and the need for responsible gambling practices. It also highlights the need for mental health support and resources for those struggling with addiction and financial difficulties.
