Teyana Taylor Takes a Jab at Travis Kelce’s Ex Kayla Nicole Over ‘Distasteful’ Halloween Costume, Uses Taylor Swift Song to Respond
Teyana Taylor took to social media to shade Travis Kelce’s ex-girlfriend, Kayla Nicole, after the sports analyst hinted at dressing up as Taylor for Halloween, referencing her past relationship with Iman Shumpert.
The “Gonna Love Me” singer, 33, reacted to Nicole’s assertion that she was “famous at the time” during an Instagram post showcasing her upcoming projects, including the Netflix film *Straw* and a Dionne Warwick biopic. In her post, Taylor cheekily included lyrics from Taylor Swift’s 2014 hit “Shake It Off,” writing, “I know 2025 gone hate to see a Taylor coming!! ❤️🔥🌹🎥🎬🎞️ 💸.”
Later, Taylor directly criticised Nicole, 32, during an episode of Angel Reese’s podcast, ‘Unapologetically Angel’. Nicole had previously mentioned her intention to dress up as Taylor—whom she described as a “singer/actress who was famous at the time”—following her breakup with Shumpert.
“F–k the Iman part, I’m divorced and happily so; however, her choice of words were very distasteful and uncalled for,” Taylor wrote in a since-deleted comment on the Shade Room’s post. “She knew exactly what she was doing. That lady said ‘she was famous at the time’ [and] also said ‘idc who see it’ [and] it was very distasteful & uncalled for,” she continued, expressing her disapproval of Nicole’s comments.
Taylor then accused Nicole of playing “the black card when it came to Taylor Swift” and bullying her as a fellow Black woman. She recalled that she had previously supported Nicole’s Halloween costume post without realising its intent. “Whole time, I ain’t even know she was being shady,” Taylor noted. “Now I do.”
In a follow-up, Taylor stated, “So, in that case, petty panties on. I had my little fun, I said what I said, and now I’m done and headed back to set.”
Nicole seemed to respond to Taylor’s criticism on X (formerly Twitter) by stating, “Sometimes I’m asked about my personal life and decide to share the lessons I’ve learned.” She reiterated, “To reiterate what I said in the hour-long interview — learn from my mistakes. If you watched in its entirety, you’d know I don’t condone the ‘crazy’ decision I made 10 YEARS AGO.”
Despite the unfolding drama, Nicole appeared unbothered on Saturday, sharing a video on her Instagram Story that showed her twirling her hair with Beyoncé’s “Formation” playing in the background: “You know you that bitch when you cause all this conversation. Always stay gracious; best revenge is your paper.”
Page Six reached out to Nicole for further comment regarding the situation. In her podcast interview, she explained that she decided to dress up as Taylor when she felt “defeated” and “heartbroken,” adding, “I dressed up as that lady for Halloween! It went viral; it was everywhere.”
For context, Taylor and Shumpert were married from 2016 until 2023 and share two daughters. They went Instagram official in June 2014. Nicole had an on-and-off relationship with Kelce from 2017 to 2022, while Kelce began dating Swift in the summer of 2023.
