An 11-year-old schoolgirl from Gainesville, Texas, has died by suicide after allegedly facing bullying over her family’s immigration status.
Jocelynn Rojo Carranza was found unresponsive at her home on February 3 and died five days later at Medical City of Dallas, surrounded by her family.
According to her mother, Marbella Carranza, students at Gainesville Intermediate School threatened to report her family to immigration authorities, telling her she would be left alone if her parents were deported.

Marbella stated that Jocelynn frequently reported the bullying to school counsellors but claimed the school never informed her about the situation.

Her obituary described Jocelynn as a lively, talented girl who enjoyed singing, dancing, swimming, and making TikTok videos. She also played the French horn and cherished Friday movie nights with her family.
Following Donald Trump’s return to the White House, his administration has intensified mass deportations, leading to the removal of at least 8,000 undocumented immigrants.

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been actively detaining individuals, targeting what officials describe as “the worst of the worst.”

In a controversial move, the White House recently released an “ASMR” video featuring shackled migrants boarding deportation flights, sparking further debate over immigration policies.
Carranza has demanded justice for her daughter, stating, “It’s not fair.” Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Jocelynn’s death.
