Taylor Swift Endorses Kamala Harris for President Following Debate with Donald Trump
Pop icon Taylor Swift has officially endorsed Kamala Harris for president, just moments after the Democratic nominee faced off against Donald Trump in a highly anticipated presidential debate.
In a post shared on Instagram, Swift announced her support for Harris, explaining that the vice president fights for the causes she believes need strong advocacy.
“I will be voting for Kamala Harris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” Swift wrote to her 283 million followers.
The singer emphasized that her decision was based on thorough research, encouraging her fans to do the same before making their own choices. “Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make,” she added.
Swift also took the opportunity to remind her followers, especially first-time voters, of the importance of voter registration.
“Remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered! I also find it’s much easier to vote early,” she wrote, linking resources for registration and early voting dates in her Instagram story.
In a playful nod to recent political commentary, Swift signed off her post with “Taylor Swift, Childless Cat Lady,” referencing a past remark from Trump’s running mate, J.D. Vance.
Vance had criticized Democrats in a 2021 interview, saying, “We are effectively run in this country, via the Democrats, via our corporate oligarchs, by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made, and so they wanna make the rest of the country miserable, too.”
Swift’s post quickly went viral, amassing more than 2 million likes within minutes of going live.
Her endorsement followed recent controversy surrounding Brittany Mahomes, the wife of NFL quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who faced backlash for her apparent support of Donald Trump.
Mahomes, who is currently pregnant, first indicated her support on August 13 when she liked a post from Trump outlining the “2024 GOP platform” on Instagram.
The like sparked a wave of criticism, particularly from Swift’s fans. Several fan pages dedicated to the singer shared screenshots of Mahomes’ interaction, amplifying the backlash against the 29-year-old.
Swift’s endorsement of Harris further fueled political discussions within her massive fanbase, especially given the contrasting support between Swift and Mahomes.
