Taylor Swift made headlines during her Eras Tour stop at Wembley Stadium in London on Saturday by calling out those who “talk s–t” before performing her pointed track “Thank you, Aimee,” widely interpreted as a diss aimed at Kim Kardashian.
Reflecting on her milestone achievement of performing at Wembley Stadium, Swift expressed her gratitude to the sold-out crowd. “I was thinking about getting to play Wembley Stadium. That’s not remotely normal [and] it is so insane for you to [have] done that for me … and for my crew because we get to play Wembley Stadium eight times this summer,” she said, according to a clip shared on X.
“You thought this was a good idea [and] wanted this to happen. Blows me away. I’ll spend forever trying to thank you for that,” the pop star, 34, added.
Swift then shifted her tone, addressing her detractors. “On the other hand, it makes me think about how every time someone talks s–t, it makes me work even harder and tougher. So, it also makes me incredibly thankful for those people.”
Following her speech, Swift launched into “Thank You Aimee,” a song from her latest album “The Tortured Poets Department.” The track features scathing lyrics about a “bronze, spray-tanned” bully her mom “wish[es] were dead,” and fans have noted that the capital letters in the song’s title spell out “KIM.”
The feud between Swift and Kardashian dates back to 2016 when Kanye West, Kardashian’s then-husband, rapped about Swift in his song “Famous,” claiming he “might still have s**x” with her and that he “made that bitch famous.” Swift objected to the lyrics, prompting Kardashian to release clips of West’s phone call with Swift, where the “Shake It Off” singer seemingly approved the controversial line.
In a recent profile by Time magazine, where Swift was named “Person of the Year,” she revisited the feud, revealing its profound impact on her mental health. “That took me down psychologically to a place I’ve never been before,” she said. “I moved to a foreign country. I didn’t leave a rental house for a year.
I was afraid to get on phone calls. I pushed away most people because I didn’t want anyone anymore. I went down really hard,” Swift” continued, comparing the experience to a “care” death.”
While Kardashian has not publicly responded to Swift’s song, sources suggest she wants the Grammy winner to “move” on” from” their long-standing conflict.
Several celebrities, including Tom Cruise, Greta Gerwig, Mila Kunis, Prince William, and her boyfriend, Travis Kelce, attended Swift’s shows.
