A shocking event occurred in Herald Square on Wednesday afternoon when a taxi driver, likely suffering a medical emergency, crashed into multiple pedestrians outside Macy’s at 34th Street and 6th Avenue.
The crash occurred shortly after 4 p.m. and left six people injured, including a 9-year-old boy.
According to police reports, two of the victims were taken to Weill Cornell Medical Center, while the young child was transported to Bellevue Hospital.
Fortunately, all the injuries were non-life-threatening. Emergency medical personnel treated three additional victims at the scene.
Authorities are still investigating the cause of the crash, but initial reports suggest it was an accident. The incident comes at a time of heightened awareness regarding public safety following a tragic attack last week when an anti-Islam activist drove into a Christmas market in Germany, killing five people and injuring over 200.
As law enforcement continues to probe the situation, locals and visitors are urged to stay vigilant during the busy holiday season.
