Sydney Sweeney Shines in Gown Inspired by Julia Roberts in ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’, Dons $73K in Diamonds

Sydney Sweeney paid homage to her favourite rom-com, “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” at the 2024 GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles on Thursday night. She donned a custom silver Miu Miu gown that seemed to draw inspiration from the maid of honour dress famously worn by Julia Roberts in the 1997 film.

The “Euphoria” actress, 26, dazzled in a sleek satin dress with a bedazzled underlay, reminiscent of the purple ensemble Roberts, 56, sported in the movie. Sweeney accessorized with an array of diamond jewellery, evoking enough sparkle to fund her best friend’s wedding.

While Roberts’ character Julianne wore a lavender dress with shimmery halter-style straps, Sweeney’s custom creation featured pale silvery-blue tones and rhinestone-covered straps draping off her shoulders.

Sweeney complimented her new bob haircut with subtle waves and adorned herself with nearly $75,000 worth of Brilliant Earth jewellery, including lab-grown diamond studs and a graduated natural diamond necklace. She also sported five diamond rings from the ethically sourced retailer, including the Brilliant Earth Aurora ring, Lina baguette ring, Prism ring, and a Logan Hollowell open ring.

Although Sweeney seldom showcases her engagement ring from fiancé Jonathan Davin, she flaunted a different sparkler, wearing a Brilliant Earth engagement ring for the awards show. The actress previously revealed “My Best Friend’s Wedding” as her favourite film during a December 2023 Deadline interview.

Social media users quickly draw parallels between Sweeney’s GLAAD attire and her beloved movie. Fans commented on stylist Molly Dickson’s Instagram post, noting the similarities to Julia Roberts’ iconic Maid of Honour dress. A fan account on X (formerly Twitter) even shared a side-by-side comparison of the two gowns, affirming that the film inspired Sweeney’s look.
