The Oregon Ducks started college football Saturday with a humorous twist, attempting to catch the attention of Hollywood actress Sydney Sweeney.
During the broadcast of ESPN’s “College GameDay,” the iconic mascot held a sign that read: “Sydney Sweeney, call me back,” showcasing its playful side as it made a bold move on a significant day.
Sweeney, known for her roles in Euphoria and Anyone But You, noticed the sign and quickly took to her Instagram story to respond. She shared a screenshot of the broadcast with the sign and humorously wrote, “Sorry. I changed my number, haha.” Although the response was light-hearted, it didn’t turn out as favourably for the Duck as hoped.
The playful gesture came on a crucial day for the Oregon football team, now competing in the Big Ten. The team is gearing up for a highly anticipated matchup against the 5-0 Ohio State Buckeyes in a clash of unbeaten teams. This game marks a historic occasion as it will be the first time a top-five matchup occurs inside Autzen Stadium, with both teams vying for a leading position in the conference.
The “GameDay” crew’s predictions for the game were evenly split, with three panellists—Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee, and special guest Kaitlin Olson—picking Oregon. At the same time, Nick Saban, Lee Corso, and Kirk Herbstreit chose Ohio State. As excitement builds for the showdown, the Oregon Duck’s flirty sign may have provided an entertaining prelude to the significant matchup ahead.
