Phuket, Thailand – A speedboat carrying 36 tourists and crew was engulfed in a fiery explosion off the coast of Thailand near Maiton Island, close to Phuket Island, on Monday morning.
At least six people sustained injuries, including the captain, when the vessel, identified as Tana Marine 555, suddenly burst into flames just 50 meters offshore, according to the Nation Thailand
Terrifying Moments as Fire Consumes Boat
Dramatic footage from the scene captured thick plumes of black smoke billowing into the sky as flames raged through the boat. The force of the blast sent debris flying, giving those on board only seconds to react.

The tourists, primarily from Russia and Kazakhstan, jumped into the water, frantically swimming for their lives before being rescued by a passing vessel.
Swift Emergency Response
According to Nachapong Pranit, Director of the Phuket Marine Office, rescue teams were dispatched immediately after receiving a report at 9:20 AM.
The Phuket Information Centre confirmed that all 36 passengers and crew escaped before the boat was completely engulfed. However, three tourists, the captain, a tour guide, and the boat’s mechanic suffered minor injuries.
Later reports revealed that two victims sustained burns and were promptly transported to a hospital via ambulance.
Possible Cause and Investigation
An initial report suggested that the boat’s engine exploded during a swimming stop, preventing potentially higher casualties. Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the cause of the fire, but preliminary findings point to an engine malfunction.
By the time rescue teams arrived, the burning vessel had drifted ashore, where it was destroyed.
Recent Maritime Incidents
This disaster follows another maritime accident last week, in which a tourist submarine carrying 45 Russian passengers sank off the coast of Egypt.
Authorities continue investigating the speedboat explosion, urging safety checks on vessels operating in the region.
