Former England captain David Beckham has been officially knighted by King Charles III, receiving one of the highest honours in recognition of his decades-long contributions to football, charity, and public service.
The 50-year-old football legend attended the investiture at Windsor Castle, accompanied by his wife, Victoria Beckham, and close family members.

Beckham’s knighthood comes more than 20 years after he was awarded an OBE by the late Queen Elizabeth II in 2003, marking his services to the sport.
During the ceremony, King Charles placed the ceremonial sword on Beckham’s shoulder, prompting an emotional response from the football star. Observers noted Victoria’s proud smile as the couple later posed for official photographs inside the castle.

Reflecting on the honour, Beckham described it as “the greatest honour of my life”, dedicating it to his family, teammates, coaches, and fans. “To be recognised by my country and receive this from His Majesty is truly special,” he added.
Beyond his football career, Beckham has made significant contributions to public service. He has been a long-standing UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and supported various education and children’s initiatives through his charitable work.
In recent years, Beckham has championed grassroots football development in the UK, funding community pitches and youth programs to nurture the next generation of players.

Although Beckham had been considered for a knighthood in prior years, the award was delayed due to a review of his tax affairs — an issue that was later resolved.
The announcement has been celebrated widely. Former teammates, public figures, and fans highlighted that the recognition reflects not only Beckham’s achievements on the pitch but also his ambassadorship for British culture worldwide.

During his international career, Beckham captained England 59 times and earned 115 caps, becoming one of the most recognizable faces of football globally. He retired in 2013, after playing for Manchester United, Real Madrid, LA Galaxy, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain.

Social media has been abuzz with messages from Beckham’s family. Victoria wrote: “So proud of you, Sir David. We love you so much.” Their children — Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper — also shared congratulations, calling the honour “well-deserved” and inspiring.”
Beckham has previously expressed his admiration for the late Queen Elizabeth II, recalling the 12-hour queue he joined at Westminster Hall in 2022 to pay his respects. “We all wanted to be here together to celebrate the amazing life of our Queen. It was something I felt I had to do personally,” he said

With his new title, Sir David Beckham joins a distinguished list of British sporting icons, including Sir Bobby Charlton, Sir Alex Ferguson, and Sir Mo Farah, who have been awarded knighthoods for their contributions.
