Sinead O’Connor’s Cause of Death Revealed: COPD, Asthma, and Respiratory Infection
The cause of death for the acclaimed Irish singer Sinead O’Connor has been disclosed precisely one year after her passing. According to the Irish Independent, O’Connor, 56, died due to a combination of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and asthma, exacerbated by a respiratory tract infection.
The late singer, best known for her hit “Nothing Compares 2 U,” had been suffering from a respiratory tract infection at the time of her death. The official death certificate lists the causes as “exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and bronchial asthma together with low-grade lower respiratory tract infection.”
On July 26, 2023, London Metropolitan Police were called to O’Connor’s apartment in Southeast London after reports of an unresponsive woman. Upon confirming O’Connor’s identity, authorities announced that her death was not considered suspicious.
O’Connor leaves behind three children: Jake, Roisin, and Yeshua. Her other son, Shane, tragically died by suicide in 2022 at age 17. In her final post on X, O’Connor had described Shane as “the only person who ever loved me unconditionally.”
Renowned for her powerful voice and distinctive look, O’Connor was known for her outspoken political views. Her controversial 1992 “Saturday Night Live” appearance, where she tore up a photo of Pope John Paul II, led to widespread backlash and boycotts.
