Secret Service Increases Protection for Former President Trump Amid Iranian Assassination Plot Concerns

The U.S. Secret Service has bolstered security measures for former President Trump in response to intelligence indicating a potential assassination plot orchestrated by Iran.

Two federal law enforcement sources disclosed to Fox News that the specific nature and severity of the Iranian plot remain uncertain.

It does not appear that would-be assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, was connected to the Iranian plot.

According to these sources, the Secret Service has recently intensified its protective detail for Trump in light of this intelligence.

Concerns within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Secret Service have reportedly been heightened regarding Trump’s participation in outdoor events, prompting discussions with Trump’s campaign team about the potential risks.

While Trump has been a target of increased security threats since the killing of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani in January 2020, the latest threat from Iran has emerged as a more immediate concern over the past few days.

The FBI released a notice in March for an alleged Iranian spy they say is behind the plot to assassinate current and former government officials in retribution for the death of Soleimani.

Notably, federal sources clarified that this Iranian plot is unrelated to the attempted assassination of Trump by Thomas Crooks, underscoring separate security challenges faced by the former president.

The development underscores ongoing security vigilance and the complex diplomatic dynamics involving the United States and Iran.
