Modern travellers typically rely on digital boarding passes for convenience during their journeys, yet there are exceptions in certain countries where printed passes remain mandatory.
Digital boarding passes have become standard practice for international travel, simplifying the check-in process and reducing paper waste.
Despite this trend, Ryanair has warned travellers visiting two specific holiday destinations that do not accept digital boarding passes.
Travellers heading to these countries must carry printed copies of their boarding passes to avoid complications.
Ryanair, the budget airline, clarified that mobile boarding passes are accepted at most airports within their network.
However, due to technological constraints, airports in Turkey and Morocco and one airport in Albania (Tirana) require travellers to present physical boarding passes.
Passengers from these airports must check in online and print their boarding passes before arriving.
To access their boarding passes, passengers can use the ‘My Bookings’ section on the Ryanair.com website or the Ryanair App.
Alternatively, Ryanair offers the option to print boarding passes at the check-in desk in exchange for a boarding card reissue fee, which varies depending on the departure location.
The reissue fee for boarding passes ranges from €20 to €55 per passenger per sector, depending on the airport and country of departure.
Notably, there were reports in December 2023 about Ryanair charging passengers for boarding passes if they did not pay for a selected seat in advance.
Ryanair clarified that there is no charge for digital boarding passes, and passengers can reserve seats or receive randomly allocated seats at no additional cost.
