Russia’s top diplomat in Poland has refused to provide any explanation regarding an unidentified object that briefly entered Poland’s airspace on Friday until concrete evidence is presented showing that the thing was a Russian missile.
The unknown object travelled 24 miles into Poland’s airspace from the direction of Ukraine before vanishing off radars minutes later.
General Wieslaw Kukula, head of the Polish armed forces, stated that “everything indicates” it was a Russian missile. Poland’s foreign ministry has demanded explanations from Moscow, but Russia’s charge d’affaires in Warsaw, Andrei Ordash, dismissed Poland’s claims as “unsubstantiated.”
On Saturday, about 500 Polish territorial defence troops searched an area between the city of Zamosc and the border with Ukraine for any traces of the object, but nothing suspicious was found. Poland’s border with Ukraine is also the European Union and NATO’s border with Ukraine. The incident has raised concerns among Poland’s allies and remains tense.
