Trump Slams Kamala Harris Over Rising Grocery Prices, Calls Economic Agenda ‘Maduro Plan’

Former President Donald Trump delivered a scathing critique of Vice President Kamala Harris’ upcoming economic plan during a nearly two-hour speech and press conference on Thursday, branding it a “socialist scheme” akin to policies from Venezuela’s Nicolás Maduro.

In speaking at his Bedminster, New Jersey golf club, Trump dismissed Harris’ economic strategy as a “catastrophe” reflecting Biden-Harris policies’ failure.

He criticized the administration’s handling of the economy, highlighting significant increases in grocery prices since Harris took office, including a 23% rise in meat and poultry, 24.1% in children’s food, 27.2% in baking goods, and 26% in cereal and bakery products.

“Her economic policies have been a disaster,” Trump declared. “We’re seeing a catastrophe in our country and worldwide.”

As Harris is set to unveil her economic plan on Friday, Trump used his platform to promote his vision for financial recovery.

He proposed a sharp reversal of current policies, advocating for increased domestic oil production with the slogan “drill, baby, drill” to lower energy prices. Trump vowed to reduce energy costs by 50% and eliminate taxes on tips and Social Security, claiming economic growth would offset these moves.

To address the housing crisis, Trump proposed opening federal land for new housing development to boost supply and reduce living costs. He criticized current regulations and restrictions as barriers to affordable housing.

Trump’s remarks also touched on his ongoing criticism of Harris. He accused her of weaponizing the justice system against him and other political adversaries, asserting his right to counterattack. “I don’t have a lot of respect for her intelligence,” Trump said. “I think she’ll be a terrible president, and we must win.”

The former president briefly mentioned Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Harris’ running mate, criticizing his policy on school bathroom access.

However, Trump focused mainly on Harris, whom he accused of avoiding public scrutiny and interviews since assuming a more prominent role in the campaign.

Trump’s press conference was his second in two weeks, reflecting his strategy to define Harris as a socialist and highlight perceived failures of the current administration.
