Rihanna’s fans are once again convinced they may never get new music from the star. On Thursday, the “Diamonds” singer was spotted in New York City with her boyfriend, A$AP Rocky, wearing a custom Connor Ives T-shirt dress that read, “I’m retired. This is as dressed up as I get.”
Rihanna completed the look with a neon green Bottega Veneta purse, vintage Dior sunglasses, and red Fenty x Puma sneakers. This bold fashion statement has stirred up reactions among fans eagerly awaiting her ninth studio album since 2016’s “Anti.”
One fan on social media expressed their disappointment, tweeting, “Rihanna said f–k yall, I’m retired 😭 never getting an album from a retired queen.” Another fan added, “Not Rihanna being spotted wearing an ‘I’m retired’ shirt. GIRL, IF YOU DON’T GET IN THE BOOTH!!”
A third fan humorously remarked, “Rihanna said don’t bother asking me for new music, ‘I’m retired’, lol.” The sentiment was echoed by another person who posted, “Seeing Rihanna in that ‘I’m retired’ shirt broke me a little bit.”
Despite the message on her shirt, the Grammy-winning artist recently confirmed that new music is indeed on the way. In an interview with Extra in April, she shared, “It’s going to be amazing. It has to be — that is why it’s not out yet. … There should be a show of growth, right?”
She elaborated, “I want to play, and I feel like music is a playground, and I want to have fun with it and show truly where I am.” Rihanna’s enthusiasm for her upcoming music was evident in her conversation with “Entertainment Tonight” that same month, where she mentioned the new material is “so good.”
However, despite these assurances, a specific release date remains unclear. This uncertainty is incredibly frustrating for fans, considering Rihanna had hinted at new music last year. The anticipation continues as the world waits to see what the multi-talented artist will bring next.
