Richard Hammond, 55, best known for The Grand Tour and Top Gear, has revealed that he and his wife Mindy, 59, have separated after 23 years of marriage.
The couple, who married in 2002, share two daughters, Isabelle, 24, and Willow, 21.
In a heartfelt statement posted on X, formerly Twitter, Hammond shared that the family spent Christmas together but would be “structured differently” moving forward.
He described their relationship as “amazing” and emphasised that they will “always be in each other’s lives.”
“Our marriage is ending, but we’ve had an incredible 28 years together and two wonderful daughters.
We are proud of the family we created,” Hammond wrote, asking for privacy for their family.
The couple received an outpouring of support on social media, with fans offering encouragement.
Hammond and Mindy first met in 1995 while working at a PR firm in London. In his memoir On the Edge of My Story, Hammond described it as love at first sight, calling Mindy his “soul mate and best friend for life.”
Mindy stood by Richard through his 2006 Top Gear crash, which left him with serious injuries and memory loss.
She later recounted that Hammond didn’t recognise her during his recovery, saying, “You’re lovely, but you’re not my wife.” Despite the challenges, she noted they emerged more assertive as a couple.
Neither has cited a specific reason for their separation, and no further comments will be made.
