Two people who tragically died in a car crash near Beaumaris Pier, North Wales, have been named as Reverend Stephen Burch and his wife Kathy.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon around 2.45pm while the couple were walking along Alma Street. They were struck by a grey Audi A8.
Reverend Burch, who had recently retired after a distinguished 35-year career, was well-known in the Diocese of Coventry, where he had served in various roles, most notably as Vicar of St James, Fletchamstead.
The diocese expressed their shock and grief, highlighting his popular and dedicated service.
The driver of the Audi, an 81-year-old local man, reportedly swerved to avoid a horse-drawn carriage before crashing into the house and hitting the pedestrians. He died at the scene.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic and distressing, with emergency services arriving to find the vehicle severely damaged.
Local residents and visitors expressed their shock and sadness, with many paying tribute on social media. The town, a popular tourist spot, was described as a beautiful place now marred by the tragedy.
Local MP Llinos Medi and former Conservative MP Virginia Crosbie expressed their condolences and thanked the emergency services.
Rhun ap Iorwerth, leader of Plaid Cymru, urged anyone with information or footage of the incident to come forward.
The Archbishop of Wales and the Bishop of Bardsey also offered their condolences, describing the incident as devastating for the community.
Chief Inspector Caroline Mullen-Hurst confirmed the fatalities and appealed for any additional witnesses or dashcam footage to assist in the ongoing investigation.
