M10news – Vladimir Putin presented North Korean leader Kim Jong Un with a Russian-made armoured limousine worth £350,000 as a diplomatic gesture.
This extravagant gift underscores the deepening camaraderie between Russia and North Korea, particularly evident amidst Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which has led to significant weapon shortages, as witnessed during attacks in eastern Ukraine in 2023, including the destruction of British-supplied Storm Shadow missiles.
Seeking to replenish its weaponry, the Kremlin has turned to North Korea, signalling a strategic alliance aimed at prolonging the conflict in Ukraine.
The official KCNA news agency reported that the Russian side delivered the gift to Kim’s top aides, highlighting the special personal rapport between the two leaders.
While South Korea’s foreign ministry closely monitors the Russia-North Korea relationship, it reminds both nations to adhere to U.N. Security Council resolutions, which prohibit the export of luxury vehicles like the one gifted to Kim, classified under H.S. Code 86 to 89, regardless of origin.
Confirming the gift, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that Kim received an Aurus car, Russia’s premier full-size luxury sedan, also used as Putin’s presidential vehicle.
Kim, known for his love of automobiles, boasts a substantial collection of luxury foreign vehicles despite international sanctions banning their export to North Korea.
This latest addition, the Aurus, joins Kim’s fleet, which includes a Maybach limousine and other luxury cars like Mercedes, Rolls-Royce, and Lexus SUVs, believed to have been smuggled into the country. Stay tuned to m10news for further updates on this developing story.
