Prince William is on the brink of assuming the British throne amidst his father, King Charles III’s cancer battle, leading to intense anxiety for the couple, according to journalist Tina Brown’s New York Times essay on March 25.
The news of Charles’s cancer and the potential succession has interrupted William and Catherine’s plans to parent their children away from the public eye.
William and Kate Middleton, who are also parents to three children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis – are facing the challenge of dealing with Kate’s cancer diagnosis.
Brown noted that the idea of William becoming the monarch has significantly stressed the couple.
Citing insider information, Brown highlighted that the prospect is causing intense anxiety for William and Middleton due to the unexpected turn of events.
Brown also mentioned that recent scandals surrounding the royal family, such as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s departure from the royal family and Prince Andrew’s association with Jeffrey Epstein, have further increased pressure on William and Middleton.
The journalist emphasized Middleton’s immense popularity within the royal family, stating that the monarchy’s future heavily relies on her.
Brown emphasized that William, 41, and Middleton, 42, not only deal with Middleton’s health condition but also shoulder significant responsibilities within the royal family.
Middleton publicly disclosed her cancer diagnosis on March 22 after undergoing an abdominal procedure in January, though she did not specify the type of cancer. She expressed gratitude for the support from William and others during this challenging time.
Her cancer revelation followed Charles’s announcement of his cancer diagnosis in February during a hospital procedure for benign prostate enlargement.
