Prince William is reportedly preparing to take a “ruthless approach” towards Prince Andrew when he becomes king, as legal experts warn the scandal surrounding the disgraced royal “is not going away”.
William’s Hardline Stance
According to The Sunday Times, the Prince of Wales plans to exclude his uncle from all aspects of royal life.
The decision reflects ongoing concern within the monarchy about the reputational damage caused by Andrew’s ties to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Royal sources told the paper that William sees the issue as a “lingering threat” to the monarchy’s credibility and intends to act decisively when he ascends the throne.
Lawyer: ‘This Is Not Going Away’
US attorney Gloria Allred, who represents several Epstein victims, said that despite Andrew giving up his titles, “the scandal isn’t going anywhere”.
“This is not going away. Even though he’s no longer a duke, and Sarah Ferguson is no longer a duchess, it’s not going away,” Allred told Sky News.
She added that the public deserves to know the full extent of Andrew’s involvement and warned that “more will leak out” in the coming months.
Andrew Relinquishes the Duke of York Title
The prince formally gave up his Duke of York title and remaining honours on Friday evening. The move came after renewed scrutiny of his links to Epstein and the late Virginia Giuffre, who was trafficked by the financier.
Giuffre died in April at age 41, with her family saying she “lost her life to suicide”. She had accused Andrew of sexually assaulting her when she was 17—allegations he has always denied.
‘It’s Not Over for Prince Andrew’
Allred said the death of Giuffre does not close the case against Andrew in the court of public opinion.
“The fact that Virginia is now deceased — may she rest in peace — doesn’t mean it’s over for Prince Andrew. More will come to light,” she added.
Explosive Memoir Set for Release
Giuffre’s posthumous memoir, Nobody’s Girl: A Memoir Of Surviving Abuse And Fighting For Justice, is due for release on Tuesday. The book claims Andrew insisted she sign a one-year gag order to prevent her allegations from overshadowing Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Emails Reveal Ongoing Contact with Epstein
Earlier this week, leaked emails suggested Andrew remained in contact with Epstein several months after publicly claiming he had cut ties with the convicted sex offender.
The revelations have reignited criticism of Andrew’s past statements, including his infamous 2019 Newsnight interview, where he denied wrongdoing and claimed he had “no recollection” of meeting Giuffre.
Settlement and Continuing Questions
Andrew paid to settle a civil sexual assault case with Giuffre in 2022, reportedly worth £12 million. Despite his insistence that he never met her, questions remain over how the settlement was funded and whether royal finances were involved.

Reports of Attempted Smear Campaign
New reports suggest that in 2011, Andrew tried to launch a smear campaign against Giuffre by enlisting the help of the Metropolitan Police. According to the Mail on Sunday, he allegedly gave Giuffre’s date of birth and social security number to his bodyguard and asked for a background investigation.
He also allegedly emailed the late Queen’s deputy press secretary to suggest Giuffre had a criminal record — a claim her family strongly denied.
Met Police ‘Looking Into Claims’
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police told M10News they were “aware of media reporting and are looking into the claims”. The officer who reportedly received Andrew’s request did not act on it.
The alleged attempt came just hours before publication of the now-famous photograph showing Andrew with his arm around Giuffre in London — a photo he later claimed was doctored.
Evidence Held by the US Congress
According to The Mail on Sunday, the controversial emails were part of disclosures held by the US Congress. One email quoted Andrew as saying:
“It would also seem she has a criminal record in the States. I have given her DoB and social security number for investigation.”
Giuffre’s family has since confirmed she had no criminal record.
Memoir Claims Legal Strategy Targeted Royals
In excerpts published by The Telegraph, Giuffre wrote that Andrew’s 2019 interview with the BBC was a turning point for her legal team.
“As devastating as this interview was for Prince Andrew, for my legal team it was like an injection of jet fuel,” she wrote.
“Its contents would not only help us build an ironclad case against the prince but also open the door to potentially subpoenaing his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, and their daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.”
Prince’s Public Statement
In his statement on Friday, Andrew said he was stepping back further from public life “to put family and country first”, adding that “continued accusations about me distract from the work of His Majesty and the Royal Family.”
He remains a prince by birth and continues to reside at the Royal Lodge on the Windsor Estate.

Victims’ Lawyer Calls Statement ‘Insulting’
Allred described Andrew’s statement as “an insult” to Epstein’s victims.
“What it’s saying is that this is just bad PR for the monarchy. I’m happy about this small consequence — he’s no longer a duke — but he’s still living a privileged life while victims continue to suffer,” she said.
Calls for King to Remove ‘Prince’ Title
Giuffre’s family has urged King Charles to go further and remove Andrew’s title as prince altogether.
“If the monarchy truly wants to stand for accountability, the next step is clear,” a family spokesperson said.
