Prince Harry will not be traveling to the UK for his uncle Robert Fellowes’ funeral, according to recent reports.

The Duke of Sussex, 39, had considered returning to Britain for the memorial service but has ultimately decided against making the 5,459-mile trip.

Lord Fellowes, who passed away on July 29 at 82, was married to Diana, Princess of Wales’s sister, Lady Jane Fellowes, and served as Queen Elizabeth II’s private secretary. Fellowes was known for his close relationship with Harry and his brother, Prince William, attending both weddings.

Despite Harry’s intention to visit, logistical challenges and security concerns have influenced his decision. Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020 and relocating to the US, Harry and Meghan Markle have lost taxpayer-funded security in the UK and must now fund their protection.

UK law requires Harry to notify British officials of any travel plans to the UK at least 28 days in advance. This regulation has complicated his ability to attend the funeral on short notice. An insider told OK! Magazine, “Harry didn’t have plans to visit the UK this summer, so when something last-minute arises like a funeral, it becomes a tough situation to navigate.”

The lack of security has been a significant issue for Harry, affecting his ability to attend various events and contributing to strained relations with some family members. Another source noted, “There have been times when Harry couldn’t attend events that he was invited to… It’s a shame because there are family members who love him dearly, and he still has several close friends in the UK.”
